Greg Allen does talk radio with a different spin of the dial, putting the emphasis on the guest and the topic at hand. Though his roots are conservative, he enjoys interviewing people who represent a variety of political and social perspectives, allowing his listeners, whom he credits with having a functioning IQ, to make their own informed decisions.
Politics, history, food, travel and music are among his passions -- ditto NASCAR and college football. This neo-Renaissance man also managed and penned songs for the NYC rock band, Diamond Dupree, a group that backed former lead singer of the Ronettes, Ronnie Spector.
And speaking of the former Ronette, Greg joined an elite list of contributors to Spector's projects, including George Harrison, Billy Joel, the Ramones, and Chip Taylor, when he penned two songs for her solo album, Siren, released in 1980.
As a young, brave 15 year old in New Jersey circa '64, Greg cut his political teeth campaigning for Barry Goldwater. The late Senator remains his political guru. (In sports it is Dan Gurney.)
Greg was the rock critic for the Atlantic City Press for 20 years. His freelance writing credits include the Christian Science Monitor, Billboard, Cashbox, Asbury Park Press, Palm Beach Post, Orlando Sentinel, Charleston Evening Post, Saint Petersburg Times, and Trouser Press Magazine.
Radio-wise, Greg began his career hosting a nighttime show in Boca Raton, Florida. A morning drive program in Jacksonville followed.
Greg then created and co-hosted the network talk show "Him & Her with Greg & Fran," a program that enjoyed the support of 103 affiliates during its run from 1993-96.
After spending a few years pursuing other interests, Greg returned to talk radio as the producer and co-host of The Wake Up Call on WFTW 1260am in NW Florida. This stint led to his return to national network radio.
"I do one-on-one interviews," states Greg. "They are in-depth, affording the listener and me a peek at what makes the guest tick." The man under the headset, with tongue not truly in cheek, wants us to "consider the show the self-supported, capitalist cousin of NPR, you know, radio with The Right Balance."
