A recent report goes that the French lower house of legislation has passed a copyright law ordering all sellers of digital-music player and online music services in France to open up their technical standards and adopt convertible ones. To some extent, this meant an ultimatum against Apple and other digital giants, as the game rule of copyright protection they establish is going to an end. Apple is desperate to prevent this law from being passed by the upper house. They know clearly that they are not only facing their loss of market in France, but also the share of the continent if the domino effect happens. France has long been labeled as the outpost of anti-americanism. It is not surprise that they are suspected to cut down on the American Cultural Impact in this way. The interesting thing is that the law also loosens the penalties for sharing the copyrighted music files. Does this imply that France is adopting a double standard on Intellectual Property protection?
