你觉得话没有讲完可能是你没有弄清楚and with them the chances for a distinctive contribution to humanistic understanding, a contribution that might be an important influence against sexism in our society这个部分。－－它和the carrers and professional fortunes...at stake并列。
简单点说：这里面有一个倒装了的省略句，将它还原成正常语序的完整句就成了：
the chances for a distinctive contribution to humanistic understanding（主语加＋同位语a contribution that might be an important influence against sexism in our society）are with them.
主语的同位语太长，里面含有定语从句。
