Insurance is a written contranct, taken with the insuring company, that transfers the risk of loss to the insurance according to the terms of the contract. However, not all risks are insurable .If an insurance company would have difficulty calculating the likelihood that loss would occur because of some risk ,it is reluctant to insure against that risk..Risks of this type are generally referred to as uninsurable risks. For example ,while insurance can be purchased form the federal government to protect against losses form floods ,insurance cannot generally be purchased to protect against losses form floods, insurance cannot generally be purchased to protect against a drought ,even though droughts can have devastating effects on farmers’ livelihoods.Other things that cannot generally be insured against are political changes, changes in the economy, war or insurrection, strikes, or losses resulting form changes in the marketplace.
While these and many other risks are not generally insurable ,many risks can be covered .An insurable risk is one for which likelihood of loss can be calculated and that meets the requirements set by most insurance underwritters to be insurable.
To determine whether a loss is insurble or not, insurance companies generally use a specific set of guideline.
