学生宿舍管理系统是典型的信息管理系统(MIS)，其开发主要包括后台数据库的建立和维护以及前端应用程序的开发两个方面。对于后台数据库的建立和维护要求建立起数据完整性强、安全性好的库；而对于前端应用程序的开发则要求它能提供强大的数据操纵功能，界面友好、使用简单方便等特点。我们采用Microsoft公司的Visual Basic 6.0和SQL Server 2000来开发系统。Visual Basic 6.0是比较完备的面向数据库的开发工具，尤其是ADO对象操纵数据库的智能化，提供了对数据库和数据表的直接操作和处理，提高了编程效率和可靠性。本系统开发出来之后，学校的现有的宿舍信息管理将有很大的改观，由过去的人工管理转变为计算机管理，由效率低、数据冗余、易产生错误转变为检索迅速、查找方便、可靠性高、存储量大。这些优点极大地提高管理员的工作效率和财产的安全性。
文章主要论述学生寝室管理模块的设计与开发过程，该模块分为学生入住和迁出、人员和物品出入、学生晚归、报修维修、卫生评比七个子模块。该模块可为宿舍管理人员提供方便、快捷、有效的管理功能。
