Yet, the level of play they bring to the street court is top tier and they are beginning to draw crowds from among people who cannot afford the price of an NBA ticket. Names like "Da Future" and "Skip to my Lou" are becoming household names.

The NBA is fraught with issues and concerns. While the league struggles to find wider appeal, ticket prices and player salaries rocket into the stratosphere. The urban kid can't afford to go to a game. The average family can't afford to go to a game. Yet, the foundation of the sport of basketball is in the grassroots, in the urban community that produces the super star athletes of the NBA. They are left out of the equation. Basketball is still evolving and now that it is a mainstream sport, we find that the grassroots have not stood still; a new form of basketball has been developing; with new rules and a new attitude; a movement and a lifestyle is emerging in the marriage of streetball and hip-hop, a new force that promises to fill a need and create a bridge between the grassroots and the mainstream.
