[辨与析] choose, select, pick, elect
choose指一般意义上的选择。例如：
He advised farmers to choose the best seed-heads. 他告诉农民要挑选最好的穗（留种）。
John tried on several jackets, and at last chose a very nice one. 约翰试穿了好几件甲克衫，最后选中了一件十分满意的。
select指“精选”, 即有所淘汰。例如：
He looked through the suits and selected the cheapest one for me. 他细细地翻看这些衣服，给我挑了一件最便宜的。
He has a copy of Selected Works of Mao Tse-tung. 他有一套《毛泽东选集》。
pick 指标准不太严格的选择。例如：
Pick the best, please. 请你挑最好的。
elect 指通过投票选择某人担任某职位。例如：
We all elected him monitor. 我们一致推举他当班长。

对于pick和pick out
两者都有选择的意思，但pick out的意思是choose sb or sth from a number of people or things,强调在某个范围内选出某样东西。例：He picked out the ripest apple. (他把最熟的苹果挑了出来。) 这句话就含有在一堆或几个苹果里挑出最熟的那个。而pick就只是选择的意思。重点理解在out。
