楼主, 你把句子结构理解错了.
是这样的.Each of these represent a goddess
and
Each of these had been painted . +时间 状语at one time.
分析;at one time 是插入语.为了强调时间at one time才这样.相当于 经常说的"however"--强调 转折.英语里面 时间可以随便放. 就象用强调结构,把一些词 提到句首.要用倒装.
这个句子在口语,演讲中很正常的.
不是a had,而是had been painted。当中的one time是插入语。
另外， Each of there "represents" -- 第三人称单数。
and had been painted... 女神都被染色了？
